Banyuwangi Regency is a regency of East Java province in Indonesia, also known as the sun rise of
Java because it is located at the easternmost end of Java Island. It serves as a port between Java and
Bali and is surrounded by mountains and forests to the west; by sea to the east and south. In this
area coffee is grown by smallholders on farms averaging around one hectare. Some of this production
is organic and many farmers’ cooperatives and exporters are internationally certified to market
organic coffee.

Dandy Darmawan, after graduating with a degree in Business Agriculture on 2016, returned to his
hometown to set up a sustainable washing station, hoping to create employments. He builds Ijen
Lestari with a vision to empower local human resources in order to improve their social welfare,
self-subsistent coffee processing, sustainable local employment and recently began to help the
workers to better manage their financials by setting up bank accounts for them.

The Ijen Lestari Family emphasizes in the sustainability of coffee processing itself, making sure the
involvement of the people around it is not just an annual transaction that is only needed when
harvest season work arrives, it also provides a good financial management system for the pickers and
farmers involved in Ijen to improve the welfare of the people and farmers involved in the self-help
processing. Dandy spent countless hours on researches on post-harvest processes and development
through in-depth literacies, and applies them on his operation. He sets his sight on a mission: to
produce a consistently high cupping score coffee from year to year. He also dreams to build his own
coffee lab where he could spend hours of researches during off-season. And participated in the first
ever Cup Of Excellence Indonesia 2021, and placed 4th overall.

Natural Process: cherries are sorted, leaving only the red ones that are ripe and put on drying rack
until the optimum moisture content is 11-12%. After that, the coffee cherries are simply hulled
(peeled off the dry skin), then the green beans are sorted.

We found coffee as a really clean natural processed one. You can find notes of cherries, dried mango and chocolate in it as well as a herbal tones. Enjoy it!
